As of September 1st we have raised a little over $10,000. Two one-time gifts that will not be repeated in future years accounted for $7,500 of this. Thus, we are raising money at the rate of about $2,500 per year. This is well below our goal and not enough to sustain the fund for very long. So far we have not had the kind of broad support from the Franconia College community that we need to continue this worthy endeavor. In 2001 we are giving a total of $4,250 in grants. If we don't improve our fundraising we will need to cut back on our grants next year in order to build toward an endowment of $10,000 by 2004. This is the minimum requirement for maintaining a fund with the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. We might have to close our fund if we don't reach this level. Our goal is to raise $15,000 per year in order to give away $4,250. This allows us to set aside $10,000 toward our endowment each year. We hope after five years to start using income from the endowment to make grants in perpetuity. If you intend to give, please make your donation now. |
