TIME CAPSULE DOINGS
Date Posted: 08/26/2001
Author: Mark
Another Franconia First, folks!
The BURIAL of the FCY2K TIME CAPSULE
will be taking place
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH ON THE TOP OF MT. AGASSIZ, BETHLEHEM
JUMP OFF POINT: 12:15 PM AT THE BASE OF THE ROAD UP THE MOUNTAIN.
The as-ever-written-in-soapstone-plan for the event is:
A hole will already have been dug, a base of crushed stone will already
have been put into it. We’ll be placing the Capsule in the hole, wrapping
it in Blueboard and plastic, shoveling in more crushed stone, and topping
it off with a shoveling of soil.
And of course the celebratory toasts, reflections, and meditations throughout
the various stages of the ritual.
We expect the whole thing will take a few hours.
REALLY IMPORTANT:
Stan Harrison, owner/steward/resident of the top of the mountain and
our Capsule-host, does not allow - and REALLY dislikes - general vehicular
traffic on the road up. So . . .
DON’T DRIVE UP IN YOUR OWN CAR.
If you do come, meet us at the bottom of the drive at about 12:15;
we’ll carpool it up;
PLEASE RESPECT THIS ABSOLUTELY
(‘cause if the road don’t get ya, Stan will.)
If you want to walk it, it will take 30-50 minutes (depending on your
condition and how often and how long you stop to toast something on the
way up. The road’s a little less than a mile long, dirt, gravel, partial
blacktop. . . and pretty steep in places)
If you do come:
bring a shovel (we’ll truck it up), a refreshment, and think about
weather on the top of Agassiz in mid-September.
Speaking of WEATHER:
If bad weather precludes the Time Capsule burial on Saturday, we do
it on Sunday.
If Sunday’s weather doesn’t allow it, we pick a new date.
If you’re planning on coming, or need directions, get in touch with

MOFO Special Event - Saturday,
September 8th at 11am
Rappahannock River Campground - Fredericksburg, VA
The Mid-Atlantic Organization of Franconia Obdurates invite interested
parties to attend the next MOFO meeting, Saturday, September 8th, as we
go tubing on the Rappahannock River. Here's the website for directions
and info: http://www.canoecamp.com/
Their tubing trip features class I and II rapids, takes about 4 hours,
and costs $13.50 per person. For $2.00 they'll send along an extra tube
for your medium or large cooler. Shuttle leaves at 12:30pm. Check-in is
required 30 minutes prior to departure. Reservations Required 1-800-784-PADL.
Bring an unflattering bathing suit.
As far as the actual Mid-Atlantic Gathering, we're leaning towards a
pot-luck brunch in October or November. Meanwhile, come float down a river
without a paddle with the rest of us MOFOs. Direct questions to Michael
Brackney.

Scheduled to take place at Randy's. Randy lives downtown NYC in a really
cool loft. City folk are expected to arrive early and stay late. If you
have to make overnight plans, call your travel agent.
It's a more upscale kind of thing, with tasty tidbits provided by a
New York caterer. If you would like a copy of Mark's four hour long Franconia
reunion home movie, then bring two blank tapes with you and he will make
you a copy.
A contribution of twenty bucks for food and drink per person will be
