If your purpose in life
is to entertain the gods, you might as well put on a good show.

We are as genitals to the
gods; they toy with us for their sport. (Edmund Blackadder)
I've never let my school interfere with my education. (Mark
Twain)
. . . So before they invented drawing boards, what did they
go back to?
In some ways, we are more confused than ever, but we feel that
we are confused on a higher level about more important things.

We interrupt this broadcast for:
A MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
Now that you've survived the educational experiments that are
continually recycled, repackaged and tested on an unsuspecting,
underage audience by insulated visionaries (if you want to do
this, we can train you), it's time to shine those shoes on the
backs of those thrift store pantlegs, adjust your knapsack to
a jaunty angle, get into a cool Lotus and start chanting RE U
NI OM. (Try it with the opening notes of The Blue Danube).
Ok, ok., we'll get on with it.
Your tireless Planners met again June 24-25 at Judy's in Bethlehem.
Who am us this time was: Judy, Howie Lyhte, Nancy Wallace,
Holly Finlay, Melanie Hamilton, Natalie Woodroofe, Mark Chain,
Marilinne Cooper, Ned Depew (with friend Carol Lavender), David
Goldblatt, Brad Whipple, Richard Mellor.
To start off with, Natalie reports on REGISTRATIONS
TO DATE:
As of the planning sessions,
we've received registration forms from some 185 former
community members. (Check out the Reunion-website list
of who's coming.)
Then, in non-chronological, but editorially-efficacious order
ñ the rest of the story:
The WELCOME & REGISTRATION
TABLE at PEABODY
will be open:
THURSDAY, AUG. 17 6:00
- 9:00 PM
FRIDAY, AUGUST 18 NOON
- 7:00 PM
SATURDAY, AUGUST 19 NOON
- 4:00 PM
If you arrive at another time, don't worry: someone will be
around to declare you legal, give you your papers, etc. We'll
have reunion-related info on the table at all times. Announcements,
sign-up sheets, message boards, etc. will be all over the place
all the time.
COMING EVEN BEFORE THURSDAY?
WANT TO HELP OUT WITH SET-UP, etc.?
WE'D BE GLAD TO HEAR FROM YOU IN ADVANCE.
CONTACT JUDY.
REGISTRATION PACKET:
- We came up with a design
for the Printed Program, which will be included in the registration
packet. Other things you'll find in the Packet: the Reunion Schedule
of Events, Meal Tickets, list of Reunion Attendees, the In Memoriam
list, the Limited Edition T-shirt, and various other stuff for
your edification, entertainment and consternation.
- IDs: They'll be in your
packets, too - at least 2 versions of them.
- If you have your old F.C. ID, bring it; if you don't, bring
a small (ca 1î square) photo of yourself from back then.
We'll have plastic ID holders at the Reunion.
IMPORTANT:
If you want your name/address/tel/email published in the Reunion
Program, your Registration needs
to be in Natalie's hands
BY JULY 28.
REUNION ITEMS:
If you can't, won't, or
refuse to be at the Reunion, you'll still be able to order items.
Natalie will be designing the Order Form; watch for it on the
Reunion-website.
For those who will
be here and want to order items, the Order Form will also be
in the Registration Packet and at the Welcome Table.
The BOOK will be $9.95
including shipping (will be shipped after the Reunion). Ned says
it's mostly done, and will be 115 pages or so; text and lots of
pitchers [sic].
The VIDEO: we're
not yet sure of what the price will need to be. But we'll let
you know before the sequel comes out. Meanwhile,
we've received word that George has already turned down several
other commissions (sounded like they were nothing to sneeze at,
either) because of his commitment to us. Thanks, George.
The GROUP PHOTO: It looks like Tom
Long, (a professional photographer, and Judy's former husband)
will be doing the shoot. Rain or shine, outside at Peabody on
Saturday 4 - 6 PM. Might be that people can have Tom take smaller,
"era" photos, or smaller group photos (any of these
would cost you); we'll let you know. The plan is to mail the photo
together with the video as soon after the Reunion as we can.
T-SHIRTS:
Wayne will be doing up 2 or 3 different T-shirts.
- The LIMITED
EDITION : a simple, tastefully designed T-shirt of high fabric
quality; College logo on the front, a college graphic on the
back. H o w e v e r : They're only for those who registered by
April 1st and won't be available to anyone else at no time no
where. (Unless, of course, the bribe is irresistible.)
- No. 2
T-SHIRT: A pigment-dyed T-shirt; text on front, college graphic
on back (both different from Limited Edition).
- No. 3
T-SHIRT: A pocket-T; with Reunion dates, emblem, headlines and
stories from the ReUnion Leader.
- Prices
for No. 2 & 3 aren't set yet, but Wayne says they're likely
to be in the $5. - $6. range. (Can't beat that.) Hope to have
the fixed prices in the next Report (shortly before the Reunion).
- DIPLOMA:
will be designed by Mitch and Howie, will be in your packet,
and will be suitable for framing (as will you if you try to pass
off this amazing simulation as The Real Thing).
- BAG LUNCH
for SATURDAY PICNIC: (Actually just a certificate good for exchange
for one). Will be available at Peabody Saturday
morning before the Road Rally starts; $7.00 each and it includes
a non-alcoholic beverage. Payment on site; cash or check only.
IMPORTANT
II
Except
at the bar, if you'll need to pay for anything at the Reunion
itself, have cash or checks on hand.
WE
CAN'T TAKE CREDIT CARDS FOR REGISTRATION, MEALS, OR ANY REUNION
ITEMS
FINANCES:
David
reports we're about 1/2 way to covering our budgeted costs.
So,
if you're planning to come and haven't registered yet,
be kind to our fragile nerves & get your registration &
money in soon!
Registration Forms go to Natalie, Payment goes to David.
And thanks
again to all who have sent in donations.
SCHOLARSHIPS/FINANCIAL
AID will be available in varying amounts for registration and
meals. Contact David. Unfortunately, there won't be any money
for lodging-assistance.
PUBLICITY:
Natalie will be writing a press release for The Littleton Courrier,
mostly for the benefit of local F.C. community members who don't
have any more of a clue about what's going on now than they did
then; and we're still working on an article that is planned for
submission to the AP.
EVENTS,
HAPPENINGS, BOARDS, etc :
- ROAD RALLY:
Marilinne and Howie have developed the course, the questions
and tasks. They did a trial run Sunday morning. As soon as they
get back, we'll let you know what they have to report. Meanwhile,
except for 2-seaters, they'll be a 3-person-minimum per vehicle,
and each vehicle will get 1 point per actual number of persons.
Ned will be developing a comprehensive handicap-system.
- THE TALENT
SHOW: 3 big hours of prime time Friday night. Brought to you
by J. Floyd Moose Greenfield and Frank Mullen. Contact one of
them if you want to have stage-time.
(Moose
is still struggling with his medical difficulties, but says he'll
be here if he has to crawl. Word has it, he's been keeping the
nurses in stitches.) But seriously, folks . . . Stay with it,
Moose!
- ART EXHIBIT:
Veronica and Evan have it all covered. New information will be
unveiled in a forthcoming notice on the Forum and Reunion-website.
- THE TIME
CAPSULE: Watch the Forum & Reunion website for an upcoming
posting from Oliver on this.
- The TIME
LINE: The curved-space, fill-in-the-blanks Time Line will be
on the walls at Peabody. Richard says he can provide us with
a roll of good white paper for it.
Just
to jog your memories, some of the dates/events we'll start with
are: the start of the College; the Bust; the end of the College;
the arrivals/departures of the Presidents; the Kresge grant;
construction of the Auditorium, the HUD dorms; visits by Ginsberg
& Orlovsky, Creeley, Zukofsky, the Nearings, Ali, Carl Sagan;
the last CORE; the staircase deconstruction/reconstruction; the
Goldenberg frozen turkey pay-off.
- PERMANENT
MEMORABILIA EXHIBIT: We don't know yet if this can happen at
the Franconia Heritage Museum. Holly and Veronica are pursuing
it. The Museum, though, is doing its own Franconia College exhibit
that will be going on during the Reunion.
- The BANNER
will be about 4' x 20' long. Judy will be cutting and sewing
the material, Holly (and maybe our videographer, George) will
be doing the lettering.
- ON-SITE
VCR: We have a couple of College- and area-related videos that
can be viewed. If people out there have any and would like to
show them, contact Alan Strell or Dan Salomon.
